Guardian homes...

Additional Information

GUARDIAN HOME PROGRAM

We believe it is important for all of our dogs to be part of a family and live in a home rather than kennels.  Our dogs deserve to be treated like family and we recognize the importance of individual attention and care for every dog in our program.

Our Guardian Home Program allows us to carefully and intentionally plan our litters so that puppies and parents have the privacy they need while in our home.  The program allows our females to have a limited and ethical amount of litters and not be overbred, while having the ability to live happily ever after in their Guardian Home at retirement!

Approved Guardian Homes would be provided our pick of the litter puppy or adult dog that we decide will be an addition to our breeding program.  This puppy/dog would be provided free of charge to our Guardian Family.  These future mommas are the foundation of our breeding program and require commitment and love.  When the appropriate time arrives the puppy/dog will have health and genetic testing to confirm a place in our active breeding program at our expense.  Once their service to our program has been completed (typically in a two year time frame), we provide a spay/neuter and then we transfer full ownership to you as the Forever Home.

Kay's Doods will retain ALL breeding rights for a limited number of litters.

If you are a Guardian for one of our females you will be compensated per puppy once her puppies go home.

You are welcome to schedule a visit while she is with us and play with the puppies!  We know you will miss her and we promise to update regularly and transparently.

As a Guardian Home you will be required to pay for the everyday expenses of owning a dog including annual exams, vaccines, food, etc. We will pay for all breeding related costs including health testing and all care related to puppies.

Becoming a Guardian Home is not for everyone.

You MUST be willing and able to follow these requirements:

  • Have previous experience with dogs or be willing to learn and welcome a dog into your family.
  • Live within two hours of Longmeadow MA - unless otherwise approved.
  • Be willing to teach basic commands.
  • Be willing to safely socialize your dog. This is very important!
  • She must be an indoor pet and never left unattended outside.
  • Feed a healthy diet and love her a ton.
  • All other dogs in the home MUST be fixed if they are the opposite sex.
  • Provide regular exercise and grooming.
  • Willing to let us, the breeder, visit your home and have access to the dog if needed.  (We won't take advantage of you and we will respect your time, but there are very specific times we need to have access to our Guardian Home Dogs and we need your full cooperation.)
  • Contact Breeder immediately in the event of a serious illness or accident.
  • Send a copy of all vet visits to Breeder.
  • Must not allow he/she to mate with any unapproved dogs.
  • Provide veterinary care when needed as you would for any other pet.
  • You must be willing to drop her off for 1-2 weeks while she is bred. Then drop her back off 1 week prior to her whelping date. She will stay with us until the puppies are weaned.
  • Be able to communicate with us, the breeder, about scheduling testing, mating, whelping, heat cycles and anything else breeding related.

It takes commitment, extra attention and love to provide our momma dog a safe and healthy environment while she is carrying a litter.  We appreciate our Guardian Families for enriching our breeding program with the special care of our program dams.  We are so thankful for our Guardian Families commitment to our program and we view our Guardian Homes as an extension of our family.

If you are interested in becoming a Guardian Home for one our dogs, please contact us and fill out the Guardian Home Application.  We can discuss the details and expectations in making this relationship a success!
